I hope you are right, Ridgerunner. If so, it should make a great squirrel rifle.

The Anschutz had a pitted barrel. The 1938 dated 52 barrel had been in the archives for years. An F. K. "Red" Elliott match reamer also had been in a drawer forever. It was time to mate all three and try chambering a .22.

The barrel was cropped to 20", so the whole rig is pretty compact. If this November deep freeze ever goes away, I'll shoot it.

If the muzzle crown is good, it should do very well. Keep us informed. It should be a 'super' little squirrel rifle! Much luck, and try not to smile too much while walking through the woods.

My Dad bought a Savage Anschutz when I was a kid. He always said it was his rifle but I never saw him shoot it. However, my brothers and I shot the heck out of it in our junior rifle team days. We loved that rifle, one of my brothers still has it. Good job bringing yours back, Bill! We called ours "Annie." My little brother said Annie was his first girlfriend.

I forgot to mention that the old Anschutz/52Winchester shoots bug holes. Much better than I expected!

Congratulations Bill on a job, obliviously well done. Love to see it. Hope you have many hours of enjoyment with it. Good hunting.
( and as an aside, I would say that it is. )

Had what is now called the Winschutz out today for a little session with a fellow that loves smallbore. This little rifle is a real shooter. I have photos and will try to get them up tomorrow. I must tell you I'm no smallbore freak, but this rig likes to poke tiny holes in paper. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this fellow make this rifle cook with Eley Match and some German ammo that I'm not familiar with. If I had been fortunate enough to have something like this as a kid, look out
                      squirrels!

I don't see nothing but a muzzle with no front site???
You can never go home again.

Looking forward to Wylde Bill's photos. Retirement or not, he has customization in his blood. I often wonder what he may come up with next.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.
