old combo gun

I hunted with one of these when I was a kid...my uncle's gun. I always wanted one of my own but just never got around to getting one. I was helping a friend's dad with some work on his house and he wanted to pay me but I considered it a favor...friends helping friends. Anyway he insist that I take something so he digs out this old Stevens model 22-410 combination...it was called a meat gun years ago and gave it to me. Thanks for the post, the kid next door when I was a boy had one, his was .22LR over 20 gauge. Your pictures really took me back!

Congrats on the wonderful gift that your friend/brother gave you....... I know you will treasure it & hopefully rabbit & squirrel hunt with too.. they are generally accurate with iron sights... but at advanced ages those sights become harder to use... I don't know if I've ever seen one rigged for a tip-off scope.......

We've got a couple of friends that collect & love these..most are .22LR over .410. and I believe one is a .223 Rem over 20ga maybe 12ga... that he picked up a while back... sort of a poor man's drilling... Very dependable & a good all around young man's 1st gun. I'd looked around for the I think it was a Swedish made Huskvarna (? spelling is off) that was .30-06 over 12 ga....

A friend used to hunt with one, 410 and .22LR. We got a lot of rabbits.

I have a .22/.410 that belonged to an "old-timer" hunting buddy, Sammie. He kept it in one of the outbuildings near a pond we hunted--duck & geese. He used the .410 to scare away crows when he was spreading the "encouragement" for those migratory hoards... Cool little gun, but I realized it would fire both barrels regardless of the selector switch position (early model). I had that fixed and it is right handy for the occasional plinking around the rancho or testing .410 loads ,like rubber bullets, etc. I saw one for sale yesterday @ LGS for $299.00. Passed on it. Great fun though. Thanks for sharing. Happy 4th to all!

if that Savage .22/.410 was in exc. to near mint shape...that $300.00 price might have been a near steal...Like the well made Savage model 99's,they have a very determined & loyal following.........

I have one of those. It was the first gun I bought with my own money. 16 yrs old in 1960, bought it at Fed Mart on Kearny Mesa San Diego. Mom had to buy it but I provided the money. $29.00 and some change at the time. I still have it and it will probably be the last one to go if it ever came down to getting rid of guns. Many, many good memories with that little rifle shotgun combo. I saw another one about a year ago in a local gun shop for $269.00. I bought it. I just like the gun.
