    Enfield Receiver Ring Mark

I have a 1942 Savage No. 4 Mark I Enfield. It has a * mark on the receiver ring which I believe to be an ownership/acceptance mark. Anyone know which country this mark represents?

An asterisk? That would be an armorers mark, not a property stamp. One asterisk would be a small spot of rust was found in the chamber and polished out. The severity of the rust found was marked by one to three stars (asterisks) Three being the most severe on the grade scale.

If you feel it may be something more, then please post a pic for us to see? If it's larger and may actually be a pair of opposing broad arrows, then that would be a form of "released from service" marking.

Thanks, JB. It does appear to be an asterisk. As usual, I appreciate your expertise.

Expertise? Nah, perhaps just a few more times around the block than you.
