    Lithgow question

I saw a Lithgow rifle that had 3 very small holes drilled vertically into the left side of the receiver near the chamber area. They do not appear to be factory drilled. Is this a common sighting on these rifles and what was it for? Thanks in advance.

    It is 'factory drilled'

They are the gas vent in the event of a case rupture.

The holes are very crudely drilled in a crooked line. Each one may bee about a 1/16 inch thick . Hard to believe that is factory but Ill take your words for it. Thanks again
