M1D flashider?

My pronged flashider doesnt want to stay "tight" and the accuracy with it on is terrible. Is this normat? I don't see any sign of rounds hitting it.

Are you tighnening it down with a gas plug wrench? Is this a USGI flash hider?

Yes and yes, but after a dozen rounds it loosens up again, timing is way off on it, if it were a cylinder lock I would find another one.

At what position does it lock down tight on the barrel?

close to 12, straight up instead of down..

You might want to consider using a washer of some sort as a spacer to change the "timing" of the flashider against the gas cylinder. To improve accuracy, the flashider has to be drilled so the tines are concentric. But the first thing is to get the firmest fit of the flashider and gas clylinder so it does not
"shoot loose". Written accounts of combat use for the M1 sniper rifles show that the flashiders were left off the rifle way more often than not because of the loss of accuracy. HTH.....George in NH

You could take a bevel cutter and cut the Flash hider deeper in the beveled area until it times at 6 o'clock I have never done this to a lock that was that far off but I have done a few that stopped at 3 o'clock with no problem. Also did you check it with the front hand guard removed?

Don't have a cutter but a buddy does, I think i will give that a try but shoot it with a standard lock for accuracy.

I would not cut an original flashhider. Shim it with a washer or get a repro. to shoot with. My $0.02.
