    ??? on Lyman 8X scope

Have a possibility to pick up a Lyman Target Spot in 8X. Is it legal for any version of 03 sniper?
Sorry if this has been asked before.
    Thanks for your responses.
    Regards,
    Mickey

yes 8X is legal for the so called 1941A1 as long as the objective is 1.5" or less and it has external adjustments and no recoil spring when used

I saw one for $695.00 with the externally adjusted rings for dovetail base blocks.
It is in like new condition. Is that a decent price?
      Thanks,
      Mickey

I'm not a judge if it is a good price, I remember when they were 1/3 that new. I suppose if you consider the new hylux USMC sniper is going to cost 550 for a china scope, that will most likely go down in value, the Lyman might be a good investment if you need it.

Milgunsguy, in answer to your questions I offer the following information. Shooters Supply Service out of Pittsburgh PA, 1964 Catalog. Paid $.50 for that catalong. Lists the following for example: Weaver K-4 was on sale for $29.35. A 10X Lyman Super-Targetspot was $115.00. Included the extra fine "cross wire, Dot and Wood carrying case."

I might add that IMR Powders: 3031, 4064, 4227,4350 and 4895 were $2.32 for a 1 lb. canister. Also Unertl Target Scope prices were from a low of $53.60 to $116.00.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.
          Author unkown.

It seems since the release of the CMP rules that used Unertl, Lyman, Fekker scopes of 8X or less are going up in price. I've seen 12X and 20X scopes for sale at reasonable prices but anything 6X or 8X is going for a premium. Have a buddy with a 12X Unertl and he's looking for an 8X eyepiece so he can use the scope in Vintage Sniper matches. He's not thinking hopeful thoughts.....

"Fekker" (Sic) - should read "Fecker"

Not your fault Jim! CMP got it wrong in the rules last year. Its still wrong, along with several other goofs in the rules. (e.g. "Belguim", "M1941A1" etc.)

              Regards,
              Jim

That's what I get for cut and paste! Reading those rules can be a challenge. For Vintage Sniper, you got to go to several sections and some seem contradictory until you read them a couple times. I know when I was putting my rifle together I had to keep telling myself, "Forget history, just follow these rules." Sometimes that can be a challenge.
