Mostly Winchester build sports Fall fashion.

Mostly Winchester build just received her vintage 60s type Fall bonnet.
Repro M84 with Griffin and Howe type mount and AWC M1C type base. Dang this stuff is a hoot.

Just a note for anyone interested. The M14 scope mounts were initially offset to facilitate loading from charger clips. It was most likely a carry over from the M1C and M1D where enblocs needed to be loaded.

Shot her quite a bit with irons. Runs about 1.5 - 2 moa with LC M80. I would think about the same with the scope. My intention is not to shoot it much with the scope though. I have plenty of other M14s with scopes over the bore.

Very nice thanks for posting! I'm very much interested in where I can acquire a scope mount like what you have on this rifle.

All I can suggest for finding a mount is to search everywhere. I have seen them on different sites.
The base I have showed up on the CMP forum last week. A gent had it come in a bunch of M1 parts and asked what it was for. Conclusion was that it was made by Army Warfare Center early on for the M14 to utilize the M1C Griffin and Howe rings and mounts that were in inventory at the time. He put it up for sale. Got my i'll take it in first. The mount was made by another vendor and I picked it up years ago while assembling parts for an M1C. Griffin and Howe still produce their M1C mount although it is now for a 1" scope.

My selective fire WRA M14 is set up nearly identically, the only difference is that my mount and scope are both original. They could be twins!

The last picture shows it in comparison with an IDF M14 sniper, also WRA made.

Just moved a couple of things around this morning.
Now they even look more alike with a new production Griffin and Howe mount.

Works pretty good to me. All 1960s vintage USGI parts including Winchester barrel. We'll call it 99-3X just to be on the conservative side.
Not too shabby using a 2.5 power repro M84 with a Type I riser. Called the 9 at 6 as and AFU.

As an experiment for my own benefit, I removed the single point mount last night, cleaned the rifle and this morning stuck the mount back on at torqued by feel. Moved the group 1.5" left at 100yds. Seems to be good enough for minute of man. Left target yesterday Right target this morning. Remember this is a Winchester USGI barrel and offset M1C type scope mount.

Just for comparison to the old gear, I just shot this with my LRB M25 with Kreiger SS. 8.5 - 25 Leupold in a JAE stock. 100 - 9x. Equivalent to 99 - 3x on an SR-31.
My thought is the bad guy isn't going to make it even with the old stuff.
