    M1D

    Hi Guys
Did the M1D have a cartouche? My guess is both yes and no. But I'm not sure.

Mine didn't. Came from CMP. Ugly stock but a really nice rifle. Harrison's book says no cartouche, the rifle is not an original M1D. I have a letter from CMP authenticating mine.

I think orginally they all had a cartouche when they were made in the 1950's. But a lot of them were rebuilt again before they were put into storage. So stocks could have been replaced.

I had a really nice D with DCM paperwork from 1988. It actually had a nice birch replacement stock that was drilled for the cheekpad. My guess it was replaced during a second rebuild.

I'm sure the CMP switches parts sometimes too. Notice how every M1C or M1D service grade is wearing a beautiful new post war stock?

Mine has a 1952 barrel, haven't looked for cartouche, but it shoots well.

I believe all SA built M1D's from the original build in '51-'53 were marked with SA in an open bottom box and many also have RA just MHO

The one I am buying has all parts dating to 1952, and a very natural looking match on the parts. It does have CMP paperwork, but no cartouche.

The cartouche would be under the cheek pad. Is there a Circle P
