Mounting Unertl on a 1903 Question

I'm currently in the process of creating a reproduction of a m1903A1 USMC 1941 sniper. I have a 1 1/2'' Unertl target scope in 10X, and am still looking for a 8 X 1 1/4'' target scope (if anyone has one they'd be willing to part with...)

I know that the 8X 1 1/4'' scope mounting blocks should be 7.2 inches center to center. I'm considering putting the 10X scope on the rifle until I can get a scope compliant with CMP rules so that I can have some fun at the range.

My questions are:

1) Are the O and E mounting blocks compatible with the 1 1/2'' scopes?
2) If mounted at 7.2 inches, would that work for both the 10x and also an 8X (either Leatherwood repro or if/when I can find one an original Unertl)

Basically, my question is can I have O and E blocks installed on this rifle and have these scopes be interchangeable?

use the Lyman hight bases, you can use any of the scope you like, careful who you have install it, lately if been fixing that that others have already worked on.

some Unertls use Posa mount blocks. These are different than the standard Target blocks.
The are found on later producion scopes.

the new made bases ill work with both styles.

The overall length of the Unertl 1.5" scope is only .5" longer than the 1.25" Combination Target scope used by the USMC. The diameter of the main tube for both scopes is the same @ 3/4" anf the diameter of the ocular cell is the same for both scopes @ 7/8". It wolud seem that the only potential point of interference might be between the objective cell and the handguard. Higher bases, if necessary, should fix that. The 7.2" spacing between the mount centers is to keep the adjustment increments consistent 1/4" Per click. (Assuming the mounts are 1/4" click. Some of the original USMC micrometer mounts had .5" clicks.

Now a moot point, as I've gotten my hands on an 8X 1 1/4'' target.

I have a set of Steve Earle blocks on a 1903, I have shot both a Unertl 1.25" target scope as well as Unertl 1.5" target scope on my 1903. The "Springfield" blocks allowed enough height for the larger objective lens on the 1.5" Unertl.

Congratulations on your 8X 1.25" target scope.

i use the Lyman hight bases, they let the bolt clear the rear of the scope easier.
