    Interesting Group of Rifles

This is a clip from my database of scoped Marine rifles. The first number is just the sequential number of scoped rifles. The next number is the rifle serial number, the next is the date of discovery, the next is a brief description of the rifles, the next is the numerical difference in seceding rifles, and the last is the database sequential number of A5 scoped '03's. Two things to note are the Becker rifle (not scoped) and the date the Marines invaded Vera Cruz. Coincidence? I do not know who received these rifles. Can anyone document same? Army or Marine?

    Jim,

So what do you think the Fitted w/A5 Scope by WRA Co in 1914 means? What exactly do you think these rifles are? What Branch do you think they belong to?

Because those Serials you just posted are in the SRS, and Andrew and later myself copied the full report on them from the National Archives.

These rifles are not what you think they are. This is why I keep politely trying to tell you that you are making assumptions off very limited data.

I made no assumptions. I just asked a question. Do you have the answer? If so, share it with the forum. The forum exists so we collectors can exchange information, not play childish mind games. Smile, enjoy the forum.

Howdy, Art. I hope you are in good spirits. I miss the old days too. Big Larry and JB had some interesting exchanges between two very knowledgeable men. I used to look forward to them. I learned more from exchanges like that than reading Brophy.

Hang loose. I don't think this one is over yet. People seem to have been charmed by documents, and completely ignore the physical evidence. The real answers usually exist somewhere in between. Both have value, when interpreted correctly. Personally, I would like to see other opinions from the readers.

          Take care, Art.
