Took it to the range to try out a friends handloads. They grouped at about 1 inch or so at 100 yards, but were a bit on the hot side. I then shot some Blackhills 168 gr. Match rounds and they grouped a bit over 1/2 inch for 5 shots.

Taking it out of the box and/or shooting it ends its collector value.
Mind you, commemoratives are rarely worth the money asked. That one was running more than a grand in 2009. Collectors tend to not want 'em.
        24X is too much for a .308.
        Spelling and grammar count!

I really don't worry about collector status of my firearms. I shoot everything I own. I get satisfaction out of their performance, I don't keep inaccurate firearms.

I have resisted putting the 24X on this rifle. It still wears the Redfield 3-9X Comm. scope. Not sure that a 24X is to much scope for a rifle in .308. I use scopes from 10X up to 36X on my .22 Match rifles.

An unfired gun is like an beautiful virgin. Beautiful and uninteresting.

Me too. That said, I picked mine up about 5 or 6 years ago, unfired, in the box with sling but no medal. I put a Redfield jr base and 1" redfield rings on it. Last year SWFA was offering serialized 3-9 anodized scopes and I got the one matching my rifle's SN. I have not fired it since mounting the most recent scope but it shot bugholes with the old Leupold on it.
