There is a blurb in the new RIFLEMAN about vintage sniper rifle shoots.... G-43's with ZF-4's; Enfields with Aldis scopes, M-1D's, you-name it if it is 1950 or earlier and issue, you can shoot it. Will be at the Eastern and Western Games and at Perry also, I think, fired at 3 and 6. Looks like it will be sandbag prone.
Anybody see where CMP is gonna have Sniper Rifle Shoots?

I shot at the Vintage Sniper test match at Creedmore in May, it was a blast. I haven't received my American Rifleman yet.
Here is what I built to take last year, looking foreward to the match at Perry this year also.
We had bags full of straw (I think) it definately was not sand. I heard they were reducing the shot count to 40 plus sighters, we shot 60 plus sighters (2 shooters, 15 rounds each at both 300 & 600).

In the UK they have the Trafalgar match, noting newer than 1945. 200 400 and 600 meters and an action course at 200 meters with a Huns head showen in loop holes for 3 sec. randomly in eight loops called the McQueens course. I had a go and it was fun.

There are some threads on the CMP forum regarding rules and approved equipment for the sniper matches. Basically the scopes need not be issue. They are trying to keep the magnification and the vintage roughly equivalent to the scopes used on the real rifles. This may be subject to change but there has been a lot of chatter about the subject in recent weeks.

Yep, the rules were posted a few weeks ago on one of the CMP forums. I have an original 91/30 sniper with PU scope that I suppose I could use, but had hoped Win M70 .30-06's W/Unertl scopes would be allowed. Would have maybe bought one to use but alas, not allowed.

bd1, Scopes are not required but the latest info I have is that teams using scoped rifles will get squadding perference. They supposedly will allow non-scoped rifle shooters to compete if the field is not entirely filled with scoped rifle shooters. RickComment

Article in the latest American Rifleman on it and what is legal to use.
Apparantly Hornady is going to be loading .30-06, 7.62x54r, .303 Brit, 6.5x55, etc in Match Loads for this competition. I guess also for civilian sales.
Cant wait to try out some of those loads!!!!!Comment
