Savage Model 111 .338 Lapua

I just saw this rifle on the web. Anyone have the skinny on it. It's a really beautiful rifle at a good price.

My friend has one. He likes it better than his 50 BMG Sniper Rifle. I think he was complaining that it cost more to shoot than his 50 BMG. I've seen him shoot the rifle and it is a real tack driver.

I read a gun review in one of the grocery store gun magazines and they marveled tht the rifle could be as good as it was for the price they were charging. The fifty BMG is a anti-equiptment rouond and the .338 Lapua is anti-personnel- it's more accurate. It's no small cartridge, more like a mini-fifty and they run aboout $4.00 a roound. That said, I want one.

There is always reloading.

FWIW The factory ammo is about $125/20 or $6.25 each.

When reloading, you will get about 76rds per pound of powder (92gr).

While I haven't heard anything on the 111 model, other .338LM models are GTG. Savage rifles, in general, are the best bang for your buck.

I have a PGWDTI Timberwolf (.338LM) and couldn't afford to shoot it if I wasn't reloading.

A while back Midway-USA had Lapua brand ammo on sale for 99.99 per 10 round box.
Federal is less. Last October the Savage Rep came to our club with all the line-up Federal was the brand for the 338 Lapua. the 110 BF was the Lapua and the stock was the accustock, boy would that thing shoot

You can order the same rifle in 300 Winchester Magnum. I thought the 300 Win. might be a better choice for me because I have several 30 cal bullets and my Leupold scope has a dial calibrated for the 300 Win. bullet drop. Then reality sets in that I don't really use what I have and should be selling what rifles I have instead of buying.

I have thirty rifles here and some only get fired once every few years. But tht doesn't matter, when I want a new toy I'm getting it and lately I am curious about some of these big rounds. I just picked up a .300 win mag and am seriously looking at .338 win mag and...it may take me a while to get up the guts to do it but I am real interested in .338 Lapua as well.
I do keep the collection at some sane level though. I have pared the Garands down to 15 from 25.

it IS an awesome rifle. I'm not a big fan of the accustock though. looks mainly. Anybody know if there is an after market stock available?? I can't find one.

In the latest Cabelas "Loading bench Catalog", PPU 338 Lapua is $ 265 per hundred...Ordering # is Thc-21-8271 (699)...with the dry box....For 200 ordering # is THC-21-8271 (700), price would be $500.00....250 gr FMJ bullet....regards...

As of now there is not an after market trigger that can be used with an accustock. Having had a number of accutriggers that I have replaced one might look at the 110 version of the .338 with the HS Precision stock. This is not an accustock and will accept after market triggers. I shoot this rifle and am a fan of the grip and comb on the HS stock. The accutrigger on the competition actions seems to have some consistency but there is variation with the other models. The accutrigger has many fans and I am not trying to encourage anyone to immediately change the trigger just mentioning the trigger can't be changed if the rifle has an accustock. While the rifle is attractively priced it is an expensive proposition to shoot regularly. The PRVI ammunition will leave you wanting better accuracy but reloading with it can be very accurate. Try to neck size as long as you can as full length resizing shortens the case life. One thing this rifle does is make one look for ranges with greater and greater distances at which to shoot.
