SKS 45 Carbines Still in Service

This recent picture purports to show Pro Russian separatists guarding Ukrainian Army prisoners. From the cut of their jib though these boys look like the could be Russian regular army to me though. Identification of the patch on the uniform of the machine gunner might help.

Just like the students in Tehran in '73.

They look, as you say, like Russian Army and my guess is the old firearms are to confuse photos and any analysis of same. Haircuts to shiny boots are Rusky regulars.

Wow! The first guy holding an SKS looks like he could be Putin's half-brother!

In Russia Spetznatz is used to refer to all "special operations" forces both military and police. For example if applied to this country Army Rangers, Army Special Forces, Special Operations Group, Navy Seals, Marine Recon. and police SWAT teams would all be carried under the general umbrella of "Spetznatz."
