    Chamber-casting question or two...

    Happy New Year all!

How much (How many ounces) of casting material (Cerro-Safe) do I need to cast the chamber of a Rolling Block chamber in .43 Spanish (or something similarly-size...) ? I have a 7 oz bar a 15 oz bar.

Is there a way to pre-heat the barrel prior to pouring the casting material? I don't want to pour hot water through it (old article I read...)

RSVP Recent experience or appreciated. Geoff in DE

The chamber must be heated before pouring if you expect to have a perfect cast. Remove the stock and most likely you'll have to remove the extractor. If you don't preheat be prepared to have to melt out the cerro-safe because it will stick to the metal.

This is the way I have done it for years, following Brownells instructions for the proper procedure for using Cerrosafe:

Shop gunsmithing tools (568) at Brownells, including bench blocks, hammer & punch sets, screwdrivers, and tool kits for firearm maintenance and repairs.
