    .40 cal. Dies ?

    Hey Guys,
I inherited a bunch of rcbs dies and some of the bunch got separated from the sets . The 3 dies that I don't know what sets they go with are all stamped on top with
    " .40 cal. " . All 3 are the same type die. Could they go with the sets 40 x 65 , 40 x 72, and 40 x 82 ? Thanks in advance.

    Respectfully

There is at least 26 different black powder .40 caliber rifle rounds that they could be and that's just US cartridges not counting foreign.

Thanks for the info. Of the many die sets I have the 40x65, 40x 72 and the 40x82 are the only sets that have "40" in the description so I thought the separate dies would go with them since they are stamped " 40 cal. ".

If there is any numbers stamped or engraved on them call RCBS. They may be able to tell you what you need to know.

If they are RCBS, joe is givin good advice, they'll probably be able to answer your question over the phone or email............. if nothing else call them & get prior permission to send them back to the factory for them to look at 'em with a "hands on inspection".

If the unknown dies are neck-expanders, the expander diameter is the only variable that would be marked (normally on top). Expander die bodies are pretty generic and often suited for many cartridges of roughly similar length and case diameter.
