How do you control hardness when using wheel weights? I'm guessing when using wheel weights it's an unknown alloy?

It depends on when they were made. They seem to have been getting harder over the years. Melting 100# at a time, then mixing 5 batches together, I ended up with a BHN of 13.2 measured with a Cabin Tree tester the last "mass-melt", in 2012.

That's about what I get. I find that with good lubrication (I double lube with liquid Alox) and a gas check, you don't need very hard bullets.
