please help with serial number / year ID ??.......

An old timer friend of mine has a couple trapdoors I havn't yet seen, that he asked me if I could help him on.
I guess mainly, the year(s) the were manufactured.

The first , he says is a carbine, not a cut-off rifle is s/n 41147.
He says it has 1878 on it, but I'm thinking it is 1873 model.

The other he says is shorter than a long rifle. Maybe it is a cadet??
S/N 10327.

Can I tell him anything based on those numbers??

Not much, really. The carbine COULD be a cut-off rifle. Block has been changed, as the correct block for that s/n range is not the one that is frequently mis-read. A cadet that low is likely a Bannerman rebuild. We'll really have to wait for better info. The receivers were made in 1875 and 1874 respectively.
