Looking for information on stock marks or stamps, see attached pictures. Would anyone know the significance of the numbers stamped on the bottom of the rear stock just behind the bottom tang and
Just forward of the butt plate? I have purchased a copy of Joe Poyer's book but I have not had any luck finding anything yet. Fred was kind enough to point out that this carbine which has no cartouche was probably re-stocked at one of the arsenals at some point. It is a m1873, serial number 380301, issued early 1887. Would these stamping indicate where it would have been restocked?
