Could it have been for a Thompson or grease gun? I know little about SMGs other that they were in .45.

I have been asking around and, while the casings vary tremendously (steel, brass, plastic, long, short) the liners alre invariably glass, save for one - so - you may have something scarce, but I still very much doubt that it is from the TD period. Yes, the concept is undeniably that old, but I do not believe that the artifact itself is. As to a line-throwing gun, I doubt that anyone would care about bore condition. GRINComment
