Slottless screws

Hi, I noticed on one of my rifles the slotless screws have two small vertical indents on side of screw. Would this indicate that they have been removed or replaced or was that left from Springfield Amory? I dont notice it on other rifles but that could be that they are worn. any help thanks.

Someone may have removed slotted screws and installed the slotless. I have a tool for that and it leaves a mark on the screw.

Tom Trevor, where did you get a tool to remove the slotless screws?

I had it made by a friend who owned a machine shop. S and S I believe also in the past sold a tool for the same use. I have not looked at their web site to see if they still do.

The vertical notches on mine are not as wide, you need a magnifying glass to see them clearly. thanks for pics.
