    SRS please, 1873 Springfield Carbine

I bought a model 1873 Carbine last week and would like to know if there are any hits or close numbers, the serial is 36983. Thanks

No hit, closest would be a second cav. carbine.

I guess I should have added some pics, the stock was cracked, but a little elmers wood glue and wrapping, it is hardly visible now and is holding together after 100+ rounds.

Other "close" recorded carbines (albeit not SRS-supported, and without provenance) presumed to likely be correct, are: 36853, 36961, 36989, and 37007.

My 1873 has a serial number of 35843 and appears to be a cut back rifle; does not have the carbine ring... I am 77 years of age and in my youth; around 1960; I really messed up this poor innocent 45/70; I am now embarrass to even mention what I did to the rifle.. I turned a nice shooting little rifle into a clown of jokes.... When I get the nerve I might post pictures...

I think we all did things we now wish we hadn't! Actually, that number could conceivably have been a carbine (unless you whacked the barrel, and thus know otherwise!)

Is that a replacement carbine stock? I am talking about the ones made between 1875-1877 with the long comb. hard to tell from picture looks like it has the long comb. Nice carbine.

Yes it is, it would have had a long wrist stock originally, from what I can tell it was restocked while in service.

curios if your carbine has the ESA cartouche with date 1877 or is it just ESA? Also did they make replacement rifle stocks for the early 1873 long wrist rifles? Being that the 1877ESA stocks still have the narrow inletting would SA ever replace the earlier broken rifle stocks with the long comb ESA 1877 marked stocks regardless of the serial number?

                              there are no cartouches visible.
