    1884 Trapdoor front sight

Does anyone know how the front sights were originally attached to rifles and carbines?

The sight bases are oven brazed into a dovetail flat on the barrel. All carbine blades were always slotted and pinned. Early rifle sights were solid and later the blades were also slotted and pinned. Hope this is what you need.

The dovetail was the part I was not sure about. I wanted to reuse a front sight from a barrel stub and it was indeed installed in a very thin dovetail. Thank you!
