Here are an 1882 rifle box and 1879 carbine box. Note the upper right corners of the boxes. One expects to see Bloomfield gilding metal [ bloomfield mills, bloomfield New Jersey an alloy of ninety five percent copper and five percent zinc]. There is no ordnance note or in the Pitman papers on what manhattan is doing on the few boxes from 1879 means some feel its an experimental alloy from the manhattan brass and copper company, New Ymanhattan box 003.jpgork. Or bloomfield for some reason could not supply sheets of metal for a short period of time.Last edited by Tom Trevor; 11-03-2020, 01:32.Comment

Don't have any boxed ammo in my TD collection, maybe I should find at least one I can afford or should I say one that I could part the price for
I do have some singles and a box of 30 40 Krag to go with my M1898 made in 1901. I have shot it once with some light reloads I whipped up. Fine shooting rifle it is!!Comment

Here's one you don't see very often - Berdan primed experiment of March and April 1877 (this is an empty box, but I do have one loose round with the .250" primer:Attached FilesLast edited by Dick Hosmer; 11-03-2020, 02:23.Comment

I do not have many boxes but a few interesting singles

And I will bet no one has one of these, as they were only done for a week, (if I remember correctly, it has been a while since I read about these)
This one says found at the battle of Big Dry Wash site.
