    Interesting Sling Markings

Decided to do some conditioning on a trapdoor rod bayonet sling today. Sling is the later one with the double brass hook with wider prongs. On the reverse side, the rough side, the sling is marked with a blunt instrument--Herman Sinn Co B 201st. Reg NY. The smooth side is marked Rock Island, undated with inspector initials.

Any ideas on the unit history of these markings. What war or period. Thanks for any help .

    Spanish-American War of 1898, and/or Philippine Insurrection, 1901-02.

Only State (militia/NG) troops were allowed to mark their equipment.
