Could somebody in the know please tell me what the actual serial number range is for the 1880 Experimental Trapdoor Rifles. There is conflicting information out there and I would like to nail down the actual range once and for all. Perhaps Mr. Hosmer would know? Thank you in advance!

I'm away from my lists right now, but the general range is from 154000 to 158000. However, most specimens occur in the 156xxx-157xxx area. The model has been faked. Look closely at the rod groove in the stock - it should wrap around the bayonet. Also look at the quality of fit around the latch - joint should be invisible - soft solder would be a bad sign. Some bear two cartouches, since many went back to SA for work on the latch. Most arms are stamped SWP/1881, though SWP/1880 has been observed.
