    1884 Thumb Latch

    Hello,
    Just acquired a M1884 Springfield and have a concern with the thumb latch. It is a little loose and I was wondering if there is a way to tighten it up? TIA.

      Assuming all surfaces are in proper shape, plate is tight, headspace (almost never a problem) is OK, and a proper spring is installed, there really isn't much you can do short of trying a replacement assembly. If, for whatever reason, the hole in the retaining plate has become oversize - or the shaft has worn excessively - a new part is called for.
