I found an 1873 rifle and have some questions.

It is dated 1873 on the lock plate, has a cartouche dated 1878, but has the buffingin sight. From my research the buffingin sight didn't come about till 1884. So does this sound like a Parts gun?

It is in very good condition, with an excellnt stock, nice crisp cartouches and circle p, and asking price is $800, is this a deal?

What is the serial number? Could be that only the sight is an upgrade - that occurs VERY frequently.
