pic of the monkeys reminds me of a swimming pool we had as a kid

grandparents ran a farm,

one border was the Dan River (maybe 15 miles from where Greene crossed during the end of the Rev War) which was too muddy, or high, or whatever to swim in, (and a good hike from the farmhouse)
the creek on the other border as a good get wet spot, but not very deep, and did not take well to being dammed up, (likely due to our not very good engineering skills)

so once in good while, if the well was running good, grandpa would let us fill up a 55gal drum, stood on end, and we used it for a pool,
3 or 4 scrawny kids, perched on the rim, and one would dip in at a time,

well water was cold,

At home on the ranch, Dad would send me out to check/fix fence & similar chores. On a hot day, soaking in a windmill tank sure felt good. SW

Colorful Kingfisher type bird. Ours are almost monochrome with red flashes on the face and wings, and incredibly difficult to photograph.
Kudos to the photographer, whoever he/she is.
