Saturday coffee May 20

No rain for 2 days now but still chilly. I wimped out and turned the heat on this morning. Went over to a nearby town for a haircut Thurs. Barber fancies himself a gun wheeler dealer and always has a few leaning against a counter. While he clipped away, I noticed an older Marlin shotgun among the pile of otherwise uninteresting stuff. Turned out to be a model 28 in VG+ condition. I checked the serial # when I got home to find it's from 1914 or 15. Priced @ $250, and he "has a little room". I've got a pile of winning scratch cards and am trying to talk myself out of buying it. Next time I go over, I'll offer 175 just to hear him screech - I'd go $200.

Too wet to mow, but the lawn actually doesn't need it yet. Monday or Tues... if it's not raining. No coffee yet - wifey is still snoozing. Time to catch up on correspondence. SW

But if you make it for her the smell of coffee is always a good thing to wake up to.

In our case it's whoever gets up first. Our coffeemaker keeps the coffee hot and drinkable for 2 hours (SS with no heating element under pot).

Here, there is no rain yet but it will come. The yard is like a swamp. Grass overall is OK but a few stalks of crabgrass are blooming so it needs to be cut.

mailed off my No4T scope to Wheaty to get the turrets unstuck, that was delivered yesterday,

Afternoon temps in the upper 80's here.
Warnings over snowmelt flooding dominate the local news.

The weather's too nice and I've been putting off too many projects to justify sitting in front of a keyboard for very long, so... I'm out.

Here, there is no rain yet but it will come. The yard is like a swamp. Grass overall is OK but a few stalks of crabgrass are blooming so it needs to be cut.

Got the swamp mowed. Now it is raining.

Afternoon thundershowers are trying to be a regular thing and I have mixed feelings about that.
I've learned to dislike the fires that tend to go with them. My youngest up in northern Idaho was telling me Canadian wildfire smoke has been reaching mucking up the air. I'd have thought it too early in the year for that noise but I guess not. Worrying about both fires and flooding shouldn't be how it works.

Mowed the back lawn yesterday. It's a much smaller patch than the front but still needs doing.
I'll be heading out and going for the front once I finish my coffee and mess up some clean dishes.

got the grass cut at the shop, as in finally finished it
had to get in a rasslin match with the belt that it threw,, and will have to replace it (big nick in it, won't last long)

and,, that means pulling the deck out, so i will end up pulling the blades etc and sharpening, likely next week


now,, have to head back to the house, get the right air hose, (cannot find my tire thingy for the hose,, I know there are some here, but lord knows where) and then come back to the shop, inflate the tire on the trailer, and then head back home to cut my grass,,,

really need to buy a cheap mower for the shop, but good news is its a wooded lot, so I only have to cut it about once a month,,,

Once again, I was an easy mark. A Mexican family was driving around selling tamales. $20 for 2 dozen pork or chicken and made fresh this morning. The whole family was on the hefty side, weight wise so I figured Mom was a good cook. I went with chicken since pork tamale ethic dictates various piggy head parts are to be used. Wifey was shaking her head... "You're easy!" Sad but true. I had to try one right away and pretty darn tasty! Spicy, but not to the extent of cauterizing your taste buds. Told wifey to grab a can of refried beans when she was at the store.

In other news, younger daughter went to a Willie Nelson concert in Omaha last night. Poor Willie sings a while - wheezes a while - sings a while - coughs up a lung... He had fun smoking all that weed, but it didn't do him much good. SW

First time in the yard to do work since November of last year.
It went feral!

Weed whacked the heck out of it then pulled the tree stump weeds with one of those step on it & twist gadgets that levers the roots bundle out.
Highly recommended BTW!
Now the whole back yard has "That nice, fresh, Minty smell"!
Take THAT zombie mint!

The bovine roundup started today,gunna be a hectic next 5 day’s or so,no rain for a few day’s & low 80’s cloudy day’s forecasted the gens are starting to put in overtime hrs to pick up the slack on the loss of solar hrs,hopefully it all turns out splendidly by next weekend.The PBR’s will earn their keep!!

For the first years of our marriage the wife and I had one of the coffee pots with the heating element under the pot. The first cup was great, but progressively went down hill. We discovered the coffee makers with the thermal pot, and last cup is as good as the first.

The zero turn mowers are great when you have a lot of grass to cut. Much faster than the old tractor type, but if there is a soft spot it only has to spin one time and you are stuck. I keep between 3 and 4 acres mowed, and this year has been especially wet. Too heavy to push out, so get out the old '03 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD and 20' strap out.

we have an easement between our house and a neighbor, and with the 54" deck on the Deere X340, I have gotten high centered or low centered a few times,
sometimes I can pull the lever and put it in neutral, and muscle it one way or the other,
most times I pull the lever, put it in neutral, and run a chain up to the Tundra and pull it out
