    Cooler weather

As some of you have pointed out, your summers temps are running a little cooler. Same here in the deep South. This past summer I've only had to mow about 1/3rd as much due to the reduced rainfall and lower temps. AFAIK the temps never got over 95 or so whereas summers past they reached or broke 100.

Past summers involved having to mow about every 3 days or so if it wasn't raining, to stay on top of things. This summer I only mowed once a week at the most.

Now, I'm somewhat of a plant guy and familiar with some variety's due to my mother and grandmothers planting. Nasturtiums are basically cool weather plants but will freeze so their growing cycle is somewhat short here in the hot South. They are planted after the last sign of frost and die out as the warm Spring temps hit them.

This year I've had a container of them growing all Summer long. This is a file photo from the web--mine aren't blooming now. The thing about these flowers/plants is they are edible and served in salads at the most expensive restaurants. The flowers and leaves taste somewhat like a radish.

I don't expect this to be of interest to many here but posted to indicate our milder weather this past year.

Overview of nasturtiums as food and medicine, in the garden, and under the microscope.

Cooling way down here - also not mowing the lawn as often which works for me! I've noticed migratory birds are starting to bunch up, too. SW

Wore nothing but a t-shirt and jeans for most of the summer from mid June to the end of September.
We had 4 or 5 days that broke 90, and quite a few around the 80 mark. Our normal soaking June rains did not occur. We got a bit of heavy rain in July, but that was way below normal.
Water levels are very low all over the region, and Manitoba Hydro is posting another year of export losses due to low water.
My walleye and pike numbers are way down this year.
Probably try Hazel Creek again for big pike once more before freeze up, and probably Breezy Point for walleye soonish.

Cooling in Phoenix now. 100's are in the rear view mirror til next May. Wettest Sep in my 43 yrs here. Last 3 weeks, had rain 3 to 4 evenings / nights every week. Last week the ground was so wet I had a 20 ft pool around my mulberry tree in back for 3-4 hrs after I got up. Won't be long til you guys are shoveling snow off driveways, I'll be sweeping sunshine off mine in 70 degree days.

But when your mulberry tree produces berries you have purple bird crap everywhere.

there are several ponds or mini lakes in some of the wildlife management areas here that are bordered by Mullberries, when the berries are there, so are the birds, and also the snakes,
snagged lure or 2 many a time trying to get up under one, and have to tap the bush a few times with the oar to make sure the Nope Rope is not looking at my lure hanging there,

years ago the city planted a similar bush in the medians on a few sections of the expressway, to keep the headlight glare down and be all nature friendly

however after the plants matured, the berries would ferment in the fall and got the birds a bit drunk, causing them to fly into traffic,
granted most were grackles or some kind of ''trash bird'' but enough people complained, so they removed the bushes
