    Late coffee Nov 16

The solar flares/aliens/N Korean hackers have really messed with my internet access. I was pretty much off line all day yesterday. And we didn't even get to see the northern lights! Ah, well - right shoulder arms and continue to march. Wifey just got up and made a pot in which I soaked a stale donut. Pretty tasty!

Lately, I discovered I fancy a salt water aquarium. Also discovered they're labor intensive and there's a ton of things that can go wrong. So I joined a forum to read up on the matter and get a bend in my learning curve BEFORE I go bonkers buying stuff.

We used to have a 50 gallon fresh water tank I enjoyed. One of the more interesting residents was a crawdad. I put a structure in the corner for it, and he was like a little bulldozer building a hideout. Unhappily, the kids overfed it and no more crawdad.

But studying up on a saltwater tank will keep me out of the taverns for a while. SW

A friend of mine always had salt water aquariums. Some of his most interesting "fish" were the colorful red/white shrimp that turn upside down to eat food on the water surface and the clown fish. Clown fish are usually hosted with sea anemones too so the cost gets expensive quickly. I don't know how much of a requirement this is though.

You can't crowd a salt tank like a fresh water tank as it will only support so much aquatic life. Yeah, they require a lot of maintenance and sometimes hard to maintain proper ph/salt balance. If memory serves me my friend even had to check for ammonia levels.

I too used to have fresh water tanks and once had some crawfish. They DO look like little bulldozers walking around with their claws held up slightly.

A 50 gal salt tank is probably doable but I think most of your forum will agree that bigger is better. Keep us in the loop with your new hobby.
