Saturday coffee and general conversation thread 1-17

Much cooler here today, but still with a lot of wind. I didn't feel entirely well, so no short hike with Flop Ears this morning. She doesn't care for the wind either and seemed happy to flop on the couch. Now that I've been up for a bit, I'm feeling better but no real plans except score another 50# bag of birdseed. I was going to hold off on that, but they do a good job of picking up every particle. Squills have also pretty well cleaned up what I set out for them.

I think there's football going on today, but that gets boring after a bit. So maybe work on a model kit and just be lazy - it's a great day for that! SW

Didn't do much Saturday. Did watch Ford vs Ferrari for a 2nd time, this time from start to finish.
Another month or so, then we'll probably get another round of the Sergio Leone trilogy.
Blast of snow and wind. Wind is wicked- makes 7F feel like 20 below.

Still much colder than usual in Budapest - which is nothing like Winnipeg when it decides to be winter, but the Danube isn't completely frozen over yet. My friend says he doesn't know anybody who has actually seen that. As seen, city trams can still get around so life continues.

A close friend in Belgium says colder than usual there, too - even got his dog a sweater! My friend Tatyana in Kyiv also mentions cold weather which isn't helped by Russians bombing electrical infrastructure. Here? In the 40s @ 0400 this AM. Still very windy, but I'll trade that for sub zero temps. SW

-1F now, and still snowing and blowing.
From my coffee run at roughly 10:00. Radio sez out of town visibility is near zero with these high winds.
Portage ave. looking east towards downtown. "D" division RCMP headquarters at the three flags on left.
The office and apartment towers normally seen from here have completely disappeared in the blowing snow.
          Nikon D-810 on manuual with Nikkor 50mm f1.4 A/I-s at f 5.6 and 1/450 sec, ISO 400.
Likely to be a lot of highway closures today.

Here, it ALMOST snowed. There were some reports of very light flurries which melted before or right after hitting the ground.

Low last night 32. Low expected tonight 27, then warming up a little. Grass/weeds are still green. Dandelions still blooming.

I'm not aware of any road ever being salted here but once in a blue moon when we get an extended freeze on wet pavement dirt will be dumped on the roads over small bridges. Messy.

"got almost an inch today no big deal"

That's about what Pensacola, FL got as well.

                      Lyman,

You mentioned acquiring a group of medals - where will you list those? I'm interested in the French variety - particularly French RR medals but also WW1 types. SW

Sounds like quite a task just to get it all sorted. German? The DDR was big on RR medals. If you think about it, let me know when you list everything. SW
