    Have a good outing.

I would say to enjoy things while you can but it looks like you already are. I used to do similar though not to your extent. So much has changed in my life--not just health but of those I hung around with. Interest in most every thing seems to be different now (for me).

Flop Ears continues to get better. Still not running after cats or squills, but she goes up & down stairs just fine. Tried to find a college ride for dear granddaughter but no luck so far. Best of the lot was a '13 Mini Cooper @ 5500. But she has her heart set on an SUV... We've been trying to tell her she's just starting out and can save up for what she really wants later. She doesn't seem to grasp the concept - must be a generation thing.

When I was 15 I announced to Dad I'd be ready for a car soon. He said, no problem - start saving! And I did. 1st ride was a '55 Dodge club coupe with a 270 hemi @ 350. But that's not apples & apples for kids today. Back then I didn't even need a tractor safety course to put up hay all summer. Plus it was easier for kids to get work on farms & such.

She has her CNA and can work in rest homes while she's going for her RN license, so there's hope. SW

The grand daughter may feel a used SUV can be bought for near the same as a Mini Cooper so what difference would it make? Just saying.

Used cars (and even new ones) were scarce when we were young. Not near as many to chose from back them and most of them beyond 100K miles needed to live in junk yards. Yeah, we took what we could get back then and many of us kept our heads under the hoods to keep them road worthy.

Cars have changed so drastically. Pickup trucks not as much so as they are still full size and mostly even larger where-as auto's keep getting smaller, smaller, and smaller.

5500 is a little steep for what's basically a fairly large headache. We got our '15 Escape SUV for 6K C.A.D. , which ain't bad at all. Ours is probably an insurance write-off, which the antler marks and abundance of new metal and plastic on the front end suggest. All that aside, it's a fairly nice ride. Usual maintenance stuff like replacing the battery, and a few dry connections under the hood. We feel we got a bargain, especially with all the power this and that, and electronics interfaces on the car. Mileage is a bit on the high side, but that's what comes with a low purchase price around here.

Keep looking. She'll find something that is affordable and reliable yet.

Standard model - miles under 100K. Daughter scheduled a test drive... then the guy sold it. But there are a lot of used cars on the market here. She's strongly considering some model of KIA now. SW
