Saturday coffee & conversation thread May 9

Got more yard work done - leaves and yard debris has pretty well filled the dumpster. So a slack weekend for me! My pickup bonked - shift lever doesn't shift anything. Local garage thinks it's fixable, so time to do the deal on that. Then it's clean the garage and trim a few more limbs.

Changed insurance companies, too this week. Got homeowners and auto rates raised entirely too much. It was even on the news they lost their butt from Calif. fires. May even go under from that. New ins. company told me they had been doing little biz in Calif and gave me vastly better rates.

Snowed a lick south of here this week. Interstate & most roads were closed from Cheyenne, Wyo to Ft. Collins, Colo. We got a nice rain and dodged the bullet again! Time to be quiet now so wifey can sleep in. SW

They sprung mother's day a week early this year

Gonna hafta get the better half something today- box o'candy and a card or something. She got nothing this year from all those kids.
      My mom's been long gone-since '86.
Spent most of Sunday night doing the once every 6 years census. At least it's on-line. Had to ask a few questions around here on stuff I wasn't too sure about. Of course we got stuck with the long form that asks things like nasal hair counts, etc.
Countdown to walleye opener steady and holding at 5 days!
And it's been cold here too, Sunday was the first day we broke 35 F in about 4 days.

ETA: They still snuck Mother's Day in there, even though it was the 2nd Sunday

About 60 miles/100 kliks due west of Lake of the Woods. It starts in Whitemouth Lake (natch) and flows more or less n/w. Both lakes are crater lakes, with Whitemouth being the more obvious on a contour line map. Walleye in the Whitemouth river get up to 3 or 4 lbs, which is decent eating size.
