    Old Cars Thread

Regurgitating a thread here that was popular on the old Y/W page.
Feel free to comment and contribute. Pix of old cars are always welcome here.

Olds nicely done. Rear doors treatment suggest '56-'57. It drove off before I could do any more pix- rain threatening as usual. There seems to be a lot of 5-6-7 sedans in the city, and few hard tops.

Grail car. GTO convertible. Not sure on the year as I know little about these.

    Rear deck.

    '56 Nomad delivery wagon.

    '56 Bel-Air hard-top. Small block 8 in there wears a rochester quadra-jet 4 bbl.

'56 Bel-Air Sedan, with custom corvette motor. License plate blares pro-stock.

Dual turbo chargers mean serious business.

'56 Bel-Air sedan with big blue six.

Neat Olds! Local gro lets people put cars for sale in a corner of their parking lot. During the fathers day car show, there was a 56 Pont. Star Chief 4-door. Very straight and rust free... but I felt $8500 was a bit much - especially for a 4 door. Beside it was a 4-door 57 chev recently restored and painted. 18 large for that one. I'm afraid to ask what a 2 door costs anymore.

A current fad seems to be station wagons - possibly since coupes are getting so pricey. SW

Two tone paint jobs became popular back in the mid 50's partially due to all the chrome trim that invited a contrasting or color variance. Mostly the colors were sickening though like turquoise, pink, sky blue, mist green, salmon, etc. with white. Metallic paints were just coming about.

A color combo like that red and black '56 would have caused quite a stir back then. I feel bold paint jobs like that (though not accepted by the majority) would have caused the auto industry to make faster advancements and create more proto-types.

Henry Ford once commented about his model "T's": "You can get any color you want as long as it is black."

That black on red color scheme was popular with quite a few of the '57 Bel-Air hardtops done in similar fashion.
Mopar was not to be out-done on this, and offered their own black on red hardtop in the Plymouth/Chrysler 300 series eg: Christine.
I have a '60 300 somewhere in my files with the same look.

I was thinking mostly about Ford and GM which was the bulk of what I saw back then. I do recall a very few Chrysler product auto's during that era, they simply weren't popular here. Rust was one of the problems. My Dad caught a ride every morning with a co-worker who had a beautiful solid black Dodge (might have been a Chrysler), about a 57 model, very long and with the tail fins. The owner filled it up with paying riders every day to pay for the gas. He said it got VERY bad fuel mileage.

Nice Packard!! I is partial to the '46 Super Eight, but that's just me.

Why flartz around with bandwidth limited forum software???
Use a hosting site, instead. It's a bit more secure as well.

Chevelle based SS 396. I think this ('67) was the last year for them- the badging and motor moved to the Camaro body.

                Rear deck view.

I'll have to dig through the files and re-host some of the older stuff to Imgur.

I do believe that is a 67, vent windows stopped in 68 (or at least did on the CAmaro)
however, here in the States, the SS trim was still used on several models
