    New barrel

Just ordered a new barrel for my Savage Model 11 in .223 Rem. I bought the rifle a couple years back for a really cheap price. I figured there was something wrong with it because it appeared nearly new. I wasn't wrong. Someone apparently left a parch in the barrel and it caused a rust ring about halfway down the bore. But the rest of the rifle was mint so, I decided to just rebarrel it.

I ordered a Shilen barrel from Northland Shooters Supply because they had good prices.

    Specs:

.223 Rem. Wylde (same price as standard .223 Rem.)
    small shank - sporter contour
    stainless match (lapped bore)
    1:8 twist - 6 groove
    recessed crown
    bead blasted finish

$405.31 shipped from Shilen to my front door.

Another worthy project. Reminds me. I have a 06 barrel for a 98 large ring that I bought (how many?” years ago. In the white. Reckon I need to sell it. After 25 or 30 so years should be apparent that all I am going to do is store it. Of course the original plan was to build a rifle. Plans got lost in the shuffle somewhere.

I spent a chunk ages ago on a Model 43 Spanish mauser (98 action) in 7.62 NATO - had the smith cut and turn to 20", FN bolt handle and gas shield,Timney trigger, Bell and Carson stock, 165 grain Sierra BTHP's. Fetched a lot of deer.

I have a Hogue stock with pillar bedding inserts. I'll bed the action to it and it should be really accurate.

Back when mausers were plentiful and cheap I didn’t have the money for something like that. Spent a lot of time day dreaming about something like yours. Although I would have preferred the original 7x57.
