Here is your problem. Google/Google Chrome hates conservative news sites and has blocked several. And Internet Explorer is outdated and not recognized by some sites anymore. MS Edge has taken it's place in Win 10.Same here mostly. What my Windows 7 rejects is my browser. I have Google, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, AVG, Foxfire and have tried others. I have to use one brower for one site and maybe a different one for another site. I am constantly reminded to install Google Chrome yet it is already installed. I can no longer get OAN and Newsmax logs on then bleeps off after about 5 seconds. A whole bunch of screw-ups.
Maybe my adblocker is blocking the sites huh?Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.― Mark TwainComment

I know but I have 3 email addresses. The main one is thru Yahoo which can only be reached on my computer thru Internet Explorer. Same with AOL. Gmail, only thru the Google browser. I shop a lot with Wal Mart on-line and can only reach that site with FireFox. OAN and Newsmax are blocked by most everyone. Fox I can reach by clicking on the icon on my screen going thru no additional browser at all. Same with Daily Mail and other sites. Ebay I can no longer view regardless of browser and have bought and sold hundreds of items with them throughout the years. The latest occurence is the federal and state estimated tax forms--I can call up the site but can't view individual pages nor print them. For that I went to the public library and used one of their computers. I can also view the other sites mentioned as well. I suppose they use win 11--I didn't check.
Most of it seems to be a lockout by microsoft and google to force me to get a windows 10 or 11 which I don't care for. I get notes stating they no longer support Windows 7 yet I get constant notes wanting me to install their latest and greatest (daily) updates.
The AVG browser is mostly worthless (on my computer) and I have tried the MS Edge.
Places I used to visit were bought out or consumed by Google, then done away with.
It's a fight but with the exception of OAN, Newsmax, ebay and being able to view additional pictures and pages, I get there on most sites that still exist.
Up till a year or so ago everything worked well. Then everything happened overnight. When it first happened I tried the system restore but it didn't resolve anything. I've checked for virus and malware problems, de-frag at least once a week and clear up memory space using CCleaner weekly as well. Speed is good for what I can view.
The local computer repair shops here, including Best Buy don't know their arse from a hole in the ground. All BB will say is buy a new computer. I told them yeah sure $2700 for a new Apple that may or may not only perform for 5-7 years? No thanks.Last edited by Allen; 04-24-2023, 08:49.Comment

I'm not trying to surf today's net with Win7 so I won't pretend anything I say might help.
Firefox with NoScript gives me some flexibility & control over a variety of cookies and scripts.
Brave offers up different option sets to work with. They claim to be free of Google's downsides even though they're Chrome based.
I use both.
I remember reading about CCleaner being in trouble over something or other and quit using them.
Firefox self cleans well enough for my purposes.Last edited by Dragonsdad; 04-24-2023, 09:56.Comment

I keep it simple,
Chrome, on all of my computers,
the 3 yr old or so Elitebook I am on now,
the 10+ yrs old desktop and dell laptop at home,
CCleaner damaged my desktop years ago, it Cleaned out some stuff that it was not supposed to and I had to have it reformatted or some such,
I run Windows defender on this laptop, and have AVG on the older one , and maybe Avast on the desktop,
I gave up on Macaffe etc, they suck,
I have malwarebytes down loaded but rarely run it,
I run superantispyware every week or so to clean up cookies etc,
and that reminds me I need to do that on the wifes new laptop (HP) since she visits every retailer known to man, and surely has 11,589,748 things that need to be removed,
I start the computer in the morning, shut it down at night, and use the 2 laptops most of the day (one home, one at shop or in my travel bag)
I don't fiddle with settings etc, other than running a scan on the superantispyware
I run adblocker plus as an extension, that will give me some headaches on some websites, (they want me to whitelist them) so I just open them in incognito mode,
some sites that I have used in the past, that have popups, will act wonky if I have had a big update, as in the pop up wont pop up, and I will have to go to Google settings and allow it for those sites,
the biggest issue I have is with the ATF, if I try to use a Form 3 or Form 4 from their site, it will not populate correctly, so I have one saved as a pdf on Adobe, and it fills in correctly,
and since I have a Google phone, (Pixel 7 pro) it talks to my laptops,
which means that if I need a password/log in on my phone, it is there,
and when I use the phone for pics, as in to post on ebay or gunborker, as long as the wifi is working, I can download from the phone to the laptop thru Google Photos in a minute or 2, with out using any wires, cables, or copy pasta,
when my ancient dell goes tits up, I'll buy something else, download chrome, and do the same,
I don't do anything nefarious, so not worried if big brother is watching or whatever,Comment

Thanks
CCleaner may be a part of my problem but in the past I have un-installed it and tried to fix my problems. I couldn't tell any difference either way. As my computer slowed down due to accumulated junk I re-installed it. It may be damaging. I can't argue with that. I had a problem with AVG virus protection--it caused more problems than it solved.
I think my computer may have old bugs, updates, or programs stored in it that won't erase. Probably what I need is to copy all memory and pics, erase everything and go back to the factory settings though few were changed. In the past I've paid repairmen to do this to other computers and they most always lose some of my info in the process. I will try to limp this thing along till it gets too bad to use.Comment

I upgraded all my computers that had Win 7 to Win 10 (free upgrade) a couple years back. While Win 10 is a little different format than Win 7, I pretty much had it figured out within a day or two. The free upgrade is still available I believe, and you won't lose anything one your hard drive.
The upgrade will change Internet Explorer to MS Edge which is actually better than IE. Edge got a bad rap for being a crappy browser on Win 8/8.1. But the Edge now is different.
I run the free versions of Avast!, AdGuard, and Malwarebytes. I also run DuckDuckGo for my search engine.
Have you tried running Disk Cleaner and Defrag? They're both on your computer.Last edited by mtnboomer; 04-25-2023, 10:06.Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.― Mark TwainComment

Odd, I have had "CC Cleaner" (free & paid versions) & have had zero problems with it.
My browser is the current build is FireFox & I have Duck duck go as my browser.
Anti-virus is Windows defender.
The only thing I've noticed is some sites with many-many popup ads give me lots of blank rectangles as I think my popup blocker is blanking them.
How are you running "CC Cleaner"? Just "feeling under the weather" & "fix it", or working through the tabs on the left?Last edited by Phloating Phlasher; 04-25-2023, 11:52.Comment

I've had a Windows 10 for years. I plugged it in and it started running updates and installing stuff by itself. I unplugged it and placed it in the closet where it's been ever since. Windows 7 is limited but Windows XP had the best controls for the operator. I like to control my computer----I don't like it controlling me.
Windows 10. 11, smart phones, smart TV, twitter, and facebook are big brother. While I don't have anything to hide I do have banking account numbers on these computers that I prefer don't get hacked.
I installed Malwarebytes years ago---it has never found a single issue. I'm not complaining, I just don't believe it is working. On my previous computers the same program was always finding things. I run a disk cleaner and defrag at least once a week.
If things get worse I may have to go with win 11, 12 or whatever is out. My Apple Macbook I haven't decided yet.
Meanwhile i will try the DuckDuckGo.
Thanks again.Comment

I haven't had any problems either that I KNOW of. I've had it for years and still have it. The only issue I had was the first time or two I ran a scan it erased too much. After that it seemed to know what I wanted to keep and what was junk files. Now, all it erases that I want to keep are 3 or 4 passwords that are no problem to re-enter. I have the free version too. I used their free trial to the paid version but couldn't tell enough difference so I stick with the free.Odd, I have had "CC Cleaner" (free & paid versions) & have had zero problems with it.

As far as using it I select "start" or "begin scan" then I select the "fix or repair" feature. About once a week I go to "drive wiper" on the left side of the screen and select for it to wipe the "C" drive disc 1, 3, or 7 passes. Any more than that and I feel it may erase more than I want it to.Last edited by Allen; 04-25-2023, 12:12.Comment

As far as I know the current version of 'clean is probably fine.
I've had it in my head that the original objection had to do with the belief that Piriform was engaged in selling information.
I was just now looking at a site that claims the issue had to do with them being hacked, twice.
Maybe my memory isn't what I thought it was.
Best upgrade I could have possibly subjected my old Dell Optiplex to was swapping out the mechanical hard drive for a (1) terrabyte solid state.
Bootup and run times are much faster and the case barely warms up.Comment

Ya learn something new everyday.
I let the computer shops install hard drives so I never know what they put in. My last computer, a Dell w/Win 7 hard drive crashed. I took it to Office Depot. They assured me they could do everything and they had come recommended. They installed the drive I guess, then said they needed the original start up disc, which I couldn't find. I think they lost all my memory and pictures I had stored. It hasn't run since.Comment

do the usual health check.
Click on "Performance Optimiser".
you'll get a list of things that auto start up when you power up. They will be rated by system resources used.
"sleep" the high ones.
You don't delete them, just stop them auto opening & hogging resources. You still have access to them all too.
Now go down to "registry" & scan. (It may take a while the first time so be patient) there will be a list of all the junk & garbage that builds up over time in the registry.
now hit "Fix All". When it asks you to create a system restore point say yes & save it.
Then run the health check again just to be sure.
Custom clean is good too, just decide from the list to the left what to get rid of.Comment

I went with a Samsung SSD. The have a 'clone disk' option that's part of Samsung Magician (free download).Ya learn something new everyday.

To start, you'll need their drive / your drive (capable of booting up at the minimum / hopefully, capable of running the download) and a couple of cables (power & data) that aren't part of the deal.
Other manufacturers might go about things differently. A fresh start without transferring anything from your old drive requires some kind of an operating system That's probably why Office Depot wanted your 'original start up disk', something that hasn't been part of the new Dell package for a long time. They had to have known that.
