So, are you passing him worms and bugs beak to beak?

Replicate ones, via a blunted toothpick.
      Unfortunately it wasn't enough.
He died sometime between 2nd breakfast & elevenses.
Its OK, we were playing against the odds.

          Something will be.
          I returned him to nature.
It won't feel it & something will get a snack, delayed a day or two.

Raised a male sparrow when I was a kid. Fed it canned dog food using flat tooth picks and an eye dropper for water.

The bird fell out of it's nest. Didn't have many feathers. A friend of mine found it, put it in a cardboard box along with a biscuit. After a day or two he figured the bird wasn't going to eat and die (duh) so he gave it to me.

The bird lived for years, developed quite a personality and had run of our large 2 story house. He was put in a cage most nights since birds seem to love crapping while the sleep.

He loved my mother, would perch on her shoulder, sip ice tea from her glass and hide under her hair when I tried to catch him for the night (to put in the cage).

Here, at least, we seldom see sparrows any more. They use to be abundant.

I've rescued several over the years.
The oddest was 4 goose chicks in a 4th floor apartment!
We called them Huey, Dewey, Louie & Pecker!
He was the male & would defend me against all comers plus we ran out of names!
