    What's the deal with ketchup?

Everyone has preferences in the foods they eat. Everyone seasons their food to THEIR liking.

While I can understand why people would not like hot sauce, soy sauce, pepper, vinegar, heavy salt, and other condiments/spices that would change the taste of food I can't understand all the negative articles on ketchup.

Sure, it's a matter of personal taste but some seem to view its presence as being offensive.

I remember from an old Clint Eastwood movie (dirty Harry), Clint making a personal plug stating: "nobody but nobody puts ketchup on a hotdog".

Personally I feel whatever cranks your tractor--go for it and stay out of everyone else's business but I won't eat a hotdog w/o ketchup.

In chain restaurants like Whataburger (which I like), you won't find any ketchup. Perhaps you can ask for it. Maybe not. I've been to several and have never seen any sign of ketchup available.

What brings me to start this thread is I've just read others commenting on avoiding ketchup on hotdogs. Some people need a life.

I like ketchup on french fries, but mustard on a hot dog. Maybe a regional thing?

Had an uncle that ate ketchup on his eggs.

Yes, that is a "thing". Really no different than some chopped up tomatoes in an omelet.

If you try this, a little goes a long way like a drop or two to your eggs.

1972 when coming back to the states from USAF 2 yr tour in Greece, we were routed thru Switzerland. With a 2 day delay in route, we ate at a Swiss restaurant. They put us right next to the front window...yup, big bottle of Heinz on the table.

Only true Midwest condiments...salt, pepper and ketchup

I spent two years and a couple months in Germany back in the '80's. I still to this day eat fries with salt, ketchup, and mayonnaise. If you haven't tried that, I highly recommend it!

Ketchup and mayo (about a 50/50 mix) is a dip for boiled shrimp down here.

I like ketchup as well as mayo and mustard on my fish sandwich from my favorite watering hole!

There is no accounting for taste. Have seen ketchup slathered on a good steak.

This is how my wife eats a steak.

For me, if it is cooked on a grill I use nothing so I can fully taste the steak. If pan fried, WTH, dose it with something.

This stuff isn't bad. Similar to mayo + ketchup with a little BBQ flavor. Available in most stores including WM.

When getting a Polish/hotdog at Costco's food court, I always slather it with both ketchup and mustard along with some chopped onion. I also like malted vinegar on fish 'n chips.

Catsup is the queen condiment. Over Hard fried eggs; edges of the white turn brown....over hash browns and Catsup.

Catsup, mayo, mustard, onions on h'dog unless there is h'dog relish (sweet pickle relish in mustard) then onions and catsup.

While in Germany, discovered curry catsup. They sell it by the bottle. When a catsup bottle gets 1/2 empty, I add curry powder to taste. GREAT on h'burger, pork, chicken. Try mixing some in a cup to try it out.

In my trips to Belgium, I discovered putting anything but mayo on your frites (fried spuds) is poor form. I got used to it and still eat fries that way. SW
