    Direct TV

An old sore subject that has come up before. Some here have cut the cable. Some do the streaming. Some use other sources like Dish or any number of cable companies. I hear likes and dislikes about all of them though. My wife likes her Hallmark chick flicks and year round Christmas shows. We are use to the Direct TV layout and have the DVR so we just leave things be and put up with things.

All that being said we pay $140 a month for basic plus what they call a HD pack which includes about 5 extra movie channels (with commercials of course).

This month the bill was $150 with no explanation (strange how things NEVER go down but always up). My wife spent a hour on the phone with them trying to get them to explain this. They hope people will give up and hang up. They finally said we signed up for Peacock (a streaming service I suppose). I told my wife I hadn't and never had any option to do so. Direct then admitted that THEY might have made the mistake and took it off of our bill.

I suppose if enough people don't buy their add-ons they just charge you for it anyway. I'm sure too that with the economy slowly tanking they are losing customers and $ also.

The final result ended up with our bill still being a little higher than the previous ones but my wife did all she could trying to communicate with someone, probably in Pakistan with broken English to understand and just gave up.

I bring this up as a notice for you to check your bill. While this is chicken feed it does add up over time and why pay more for stuff you didn't ask for or use?

still have cable, but ditched Comcast after 35+ yrs (started with whatever they used to be called in 1987)
now have Fios at the shop, and at home, both internet only,
oddly, the shop is $35 month, in my personal name (not a business acct) and the house, in my wifes name) is about double that,

we also got about $500 in gift cards when she switched, then an offer for another $100 off last month

wife did sign up for Hulu, since it gives here local channels (the antenna don't work for crap here) and Hallmark, and some sports stuff

I am happy as a pig in poo with just streaming off Amazon, netflix or pluto

I will admit, I do miss some of the movie options we had when we had cable, since we had HBO/Max and Showtime, but not missing the cost

cost wise, we are about 1/3 or maybe a tick more than what we had,
not sure what she pays for hulu, but we have had netflix forever, (We were a 2 DVD per period subscriber) and have had Amazon Prime for almost as long, so I don't really count those costs,

our Samsung TV's have Samsung Plus , which is free, and about 1000 channels, of various stuff

get lucky and catch a Rockford Files or old Hawaii 5-0 now and again

Besides making a good TV (especially the HD models) it sounds like reason enough to buy a Samsung for those who stream.
