Excellent device, solves timing problems. It is a drop in replacement op-rod catch. Clip stays in the rifle after last shot. You can load an empty clip into the rifle and top load rounds as you wish.

M1 thumb is an empty rifle handling issue so the Holbrook device has no effect on that. Otherwise, it does what it is supposed to do.

I have one in one of my M1's and I'm going to remove it. Nothing like the ejection ping!!! Just have to keep my thumb out of the way, as I do with all the others. (But I have had two M1 thumbs and an M1 finger.)

don't you just remove the accelerator from the op rod latch?

There is a bit more to it than that.

M1 thumb is an operator failure issue. So is Hakim Finger. Load either correctly and you'll have no issues with 'em.
Holbrook devices and anything like it is nothing but a way of separating you from your money.

Interesting comment.. I have sold over 7,000 of my Devices and older folks with weak hands, Arthritis and women etc love it. I have sold many to people who have only one arm. Have you tried to load a Garand with one hand??? Most of the catches were made by converting GI Op Rod Catches, however I used up most of the surplus so I now make them from scratch and they work well....

They are very easy to make, just cut the mag release arm off, then drill a hole in the catch and insert a spring... I use a #22 drill bit for the hole.

Here is a photo of a converted GI op rod catch for reference. Anyone who needs assistance, please contact me.

John, I've lost the small coil spring from my Holbrook device. Where can I get a replacement and what size do I ask for. It must be a common size and possibly my local hardware store has one in stock.

Just a suggestion, most hardware stores have a "spring cabinet" with a large assortment of those items. Just take your op rod catch with you and see which one fits. (you may have to trim the replacement to length)

If you cannot find one locally, let me know and I will mail you one.. Any spring that will fit the hole will work..

BTW, For those of you that own one of my Devices, you can load "short round' clips! 6 or 7 or full 8 round clips will work just fine!!!!
