    Low number Rock Island Rebuild

Pics posted for your comment and enjoyment. Let's acknowledge the disagreement over shooting LN 1903s and fore go that argument. LN receiver 5/18 R.I. Barrel. BF (Bonney Forge replacement bolt). Cartouche look good. No treasure in butt trap.IMG_1530.jpgIMG_1531.jpg

Definitely been around the block a few times but some honest service.

only 1903's had the gas port on the right side of the receiver with the hump? And the 03a3's had the port on the left...

Rick I mainly posted it for the cartouches. I found that very interesting.

Milboltnut. I think I know the answer to that sans Hatcher hole added later, but I'll let Rick, John, Steve, etc confirm that.

Correct other than the cast aftermarket receivers built up with surplus parts after WW2. I've read were junk but I have no first hand experience.

Springfield Armory (Mass., not Genesseo, Ill.), Rock Island Arsenal(Ill.,not Rock Island Armory, Phillipines)
, and Remington made M1903s; Remington and Smith Corona made the M1903A3. Remington made the M1903A4.

Late Remington M1903s also had "Hatcher" holes; A number were added to Marine M1903s and some were added to earlier SA/RIA rifles, as well.

The Marines started to explore the idea of Hatcher holes in July 1938. In August 1938 they sent a Master Guns to SA to observe how SA was doing it. That is also about the same time as they ordered the fixtures and tools from SA to drill the hatcher and also enlarge/drill the gas hole in the bolt.
