    Incoming Remington 1903

Johnny P, Mr. Beard, et al,

I know this is not an original as-issued 1903.
AFAIK, it is an accurate representation of what it is:
-Arsenal refurbished (RIA over RK, in box, possibly late war-to-immediate post-war since Frank Krack retired in 1946).
-Re-inspected at Augusta Arsenal (probably early 1950s).
    -2 proof -P- marks.
(Early 1942) Springfield Scant stock with small s in cutout, no 03A3 receiver ring cut.
-3 punch marks beneath serial number.

I will add that the pictures are not mine.
I will take better pictures once I bring it home.

    Thanks.

Does Anyone Know Who -O- Was at Augusta Arsenal?

Initially, I thought this was an R but now, I see it as a P with a divot in the wood, giving the appearance of an R.
    Anyone disagree?

That is probably RIA over FK (Frank Krack).

The scant stocks came about as having a duplicating machine for pistol grip stocks, but only straight grip stock blanks. There was just enough extra wood on the straight grip blanks that it came out with an abbreviated grip. They gained the nickname "Wart Hog" stocks.

Thanks for your response Johnny P.
I am familiar with most things -Model 1903-.

And, who doesn-t love the name warthog as it relates to a weapon?!

Do you think the mark above the magazine floor plate is an R or a P?

I made a typo. Yes, FK = Frank Krack

While some of the Colt books show the assembler and final inspector number/letter ID, have never seen a list of Augusta Arsenal inspectors.

The seller sent me a closeup of the R above the floor plate. Definitely not a P as I had wondered.
Maybe, this early 1942 S-marked Scant Stock was designated for the Remington 1903?
            (No 03A3s in 2-42.)

Has anyone ever seen this Remington R on a Scant Stock, or S-stock?

The aforementioned inspector stamp is AAQ.
I misread the sellers fuzzy image.
I have seen many AAQ -stamped stocks, here and elsewhere, as have many of us, I suppose.

Has anyone discovered the identity of Augusta Arsenal Inspector Q??
Could it have to do with an inspection for Quality?

Probably the inspector that fell after inspector P.
