I say it is fine. I've seen many items like that over the years. I have little doubt it's not real.

If you want to sell it, let me know.

When I saw the 1st Battalion C Company marking I thought I had something marked that way. I have an officer's bag that is also marked like that.

Granted there were a lot of 1st Battalions, C company, as there would be one in every Regiment pretty much. But I thought it was a neat correlation.

What is the correct abbreviation for battalion.Your piece is marked "BTL" his cleaning rod case is marked "BTN" or is there any official abbreviation?

Have seen Battalion abbreviated Bn., BTL., BTN. Usually nowadays it is just BN. Not to sure what would have been correct for 70 years ago.

You could run it by Bill Ricca. He's on the Board of Directors of the GCA (garand Collectors Association) and has penned articles for the GCA magazine on the subject of fakery as applied to various military web gear, maintenance tools, etc. His business website: http://billricca.com/

A busy guy, no doubt. But you might get lucky. Heck, he may even post here under some pseudonym. HTH

Perhaps the best thing is to ask the OP why he thinks it might be fake.LOL
