    Puerto Rician Aid

Since this is not a state but a conquered land which has not done nor wanted statehood What should the aid response be? They have limited rights as citizens and have turned town citizenship. Should they get aid as we would a state or as we would for a foreign nation?
I do not see this island nation become a state and should be left to itself, same for the American Virgin Island. Guam is another matter as it is a needed Military Base.

They can come to the mainland whenever they want, where they can settle and register to vote.

I thought it was where the former governor of Loiusianna moved to, as she had no IDEA of what the heck to do..

Mean know one had the sense to get thier local roads open for getting access for supplies to move in??

What happen to the amerature radio opeator, couldn't they get communications set-up to advise what was needed???

More's the pity! America's own little piece of the Turd World. I'd love to give them their own independence, & pay off their colossal debts as well, and anything else it took to be rid of them, but the crafty low-lifes will never give up their right to live off the fat of Uncle Sam.

Not correct--these sponges would LOVE statehood, adding two radical Demo Senators to Congress; what they DON'T want is independence, as that would require them to pay their own way.

Yep. That's the way it is NOW since they have gone bankrupt. Prior to that Sam was right. We need to help them out as we are already doing. Not kiss their butt and do everything for them like they are DEMANDING but give them bottled water and MRE's. It's like New Orleans all over again after Katrina. All efforts need to be made to cut them loose afterward. America would save a ton of welfare dollars and reduce automatic democrat voters at the same time.

21 Billion in aid to the island last year. 50% of the population live below the poverty level. One third of the population is on food stamps. I've been following the Federal response effort very closely and we have a lot of resources working on the island. What I haven't been able to see is any reports of the people of the island helping them selves. I read one article where some people were complaining about having to clear debris. I've been through three hurricanes including a major flooding event and a tropical storm with flooding. When the winds knocked over trees my neighbors and I got our chain saws and started cleaning up the area and opening up roads. We didn't wait for the local or federal gov't to help us. When parts of Houston flooded it was men of all backgrounds using their own boats and gas going into the flood areas and bring our fellow citizens out.

Yes the 3.7 million people on the island of PR need help but it takes all parties to fix the situation they are in.

Why don't we just give it back to Spain. It could be our way of apologizing for the Spanish American War. It would make odummer proud.

I Google imaged Puerto Ricans cleaning up after Maria. I saw Puerto Ricans with chain saws and wheel barrows full of muck and families clearing paths to reach natural springs for water.... and devestation most of us would never in our lives be able to comprehend sitting here in front of a screen.

What kind of aid should we provide ? ... is a fair question I suppose.

I would hope the answer would be "all in our God given abilities" ...that was my vision of America when I was a kid

But suddenly , urged by just a tweet, we are about to convince ourselves these parasites are unworthy. They weren't prepared... they're on foodstamps.... they won't help themselves and after such an unfathomable catastrophe we can still take the time to note that "they're likely Democrats"

A few years back right here on Culvers there were some, who are still here, that boasted loudly about how quickly we got the infrastructure back up and running in Baghdad ......Baghdad. Faster than many of the repairs done for hurricane damage right here in the good ol USA . My pointing out displeasure at spending the billions to fix what we destroyed got me labeled ... a Troll .

I hope that we can all ignore a ridiculous pissing contest between the Mayor of a devestated city and the leader of the free world who's feelings are damaged and .... just get on with the worthy mission God has provided.

Actually, they do have citizenship. They have the right to apply for statehood at any election -- but because they pay no federal taxes, they are reluctant to take up that burden.

"Likely"??? But that isn't the main problem, which is that despite being a US possession, they are Turd Worlders to the bone, no different in culture from the populations of Cuba, Dominican Republic, etc. Never important as a military base, natural resources, any other reason, so WHY on earth was this alien population not turned loose after the SpanAm war?

A ticking time-bomb; consider how two more far-left Senators would change the balance of power in DC.

They say they can't get to places where roads and bridges are bugered up. What? No helicopters there?
