Bruce, neither you or any of the other pastors turned your decision into a media fiasco.

My own church was built in the mid-1800's. In the stone tile floor were ancient religious symbols which also contained a Maltese cross and a version of the swastika. It wasn't until the late 1980's when someone decided to have all the "Nazi signs" removed. As a kid I knew better and disagreed with the council's decision as an adult. However, nobody turned that decision into news then either.

Demonstrates that PC wasn't invented yesterday, though it has of course grown to monstrous proportions today. In pre-WW II public buildings all over the country--train stations, city halls, hotels, etc.--swastikas used as architectural decoration have been destroyed to placate the ignorant. No doubt the same would be done to the countless Hindu & Buddhist temples which also display them if these mindless & intolerant destroyers had their way.

The Episcopal Church USA has been losing members-whole congregations-because of its leftward drift, embrace of the homosexual agenda.

The Lutheran Church (LCA) turned me towards the door for similar reasons. Women Pastors didn't bother me one iota. Openly embracing uber-left politics and alternative lifesyles did. The sermons sickened me.

The ELCA approved the ordination of homosexuals and the acceptance of same sex relationships, the result was a schism, a large number of congregations seceded, many people voted with their feet-and their wallets.
At its most recent General Assembly the PCUSA found its membership had dropped by over 700,000 in ten years due to their acceptance of homosexuality and same sex relationships.

...take down a plaque honoring him. They claim that it "makes some people feel unsafe or unwelcome."

              Now I feel unwelcome.
"unsafe"? Is George's ghost floating around?

I can see where descendants of say Cornwallis or Charles O'Hara or John Pope or Ambrose Burnside might feel uncomfortable. On the other hand these church declare themselves to be "welcoming"-?

You'd think the folks in the east/NE would have some kind of pride in their heritage. So, it's Mao's little Red Book. Burning witches. In my wildest crazy dreams I haven't yet had a dream where George Washington was evil and scary. You'd think the populous of the NE would stand their ground on this, but hey, once a stupid lemming theme starts(kind of like tattoos) everyone gets on board.
When the ship leaves for Mars, I'm not getting on without some kind of testing of IQ.

Since I am frustrated with the Episcopalians, when I get to feeling religious I go to the local Lutheran church, of whom the pastor is a very good friend. He is a former NASA rocket scientist, a model railroader par excellence, and politically somewhere to the right of Attilla the Hun. Not a PC fiber in his body.

These same "people" sure don't mind accepting free money, most of it having pictures of George Washington on it.

That's true -- in fact the Catholic Church has created an Anglican Rite so former Episcopal dioceses and parishes that have joined the church can continue to worship in their accustomed mode.
