    Deserter to walk

For those who served, what is your reaction?

He's already socially and professionally screwed, a few years in Leavenworth wont help that. Lots of honorable men have done worse and been rewarded.

I have not read (its probably not available) what was said at trial, why no jail was given, etc., etc. So I have no comment, other then a Dishonorable discharge is a pretty harsh penalty.
I do not remember exactly what, but have filled many forms out where the question of ever getting a D.D. was asked. I think a 4473 form is one, tho its been awhile since I filled one out.
A D.D. is something that never goes away!
I will say that 'no jail' is just another sign of the liberal transformation the US is in, pretty bad when it spills over into the military! The stain of a D.D. will probably go away in the future too.

Well, I did not serve so perhaps my answer isn't wanted, but IMHO, the SOB should have been shot.

I assume this is the article.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) — A military judge ruled Friday that Bowe Bergdahl should serve no prison time for endangering his comrades by walking off his Afghanistan post.

First of all, he's not "socially and professionally screwed," except among vets. Among his many friends in the radical left-wing, he's a HERO, just as transfreak traitor Manning is. A "few years in Leavenworth" might discourage other would-be deserters.

Hard to understand how men who have "done worse" can still be considered honorable.

Waste of tax dollars, seems the judge agreed. Next.

Why would anybody plead guilty for a life sentence?

The deal was made for him to plead guilty and walk. I don't know who the judge was but I would bet he is a Obamama guy and a Trump hater. The spin you are going to hear soon (if not already) is that it is all Trump's fault. Trump bad mouthed the guy and as a result the judge couldn't guarantee a fair trial and had to let him walk. Togor will celebrate tonight!

SFW - if you cannot serve with honor, don't serve. He dirtied the uniform and dishonored the flag. F**k him.

He's not alone in the US Army, by any means; why else would the Army have dragged out the prosecution all these years, not to mention promoting him!!!, when the SOB's own comments, together with interviews with the rest of the platoon, had made it crystal clear within a few days that he had deserted.

We have lots of money. The nut that just ran over a bunch of people should of course be taken out and shot immediately, but that trial will cost plenty.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

And brother, if you doubt that in the least, his supporters have already announced the Dishonorable Discharge is going to be appealed, AND they are going to petition the Army to award him the Prisoner of War Medal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
