The first amendment does not protect secular/agnostic/atheist from persons who have a faith perspective. Otherwise, it privileges the belief structure of secular/agnostic/atheist. In this case, the teacher is being persecuted by a system hostile to his own faith, for the simple reason that the system in place is shaped by a belief system predicated upon secularism, agnosticism, athiesm, ... or nothingism. Of course since it is England, the very idea of religious freedom of any sort is a non-starter.

Now if and when this sort of thing becomes the law of the land in the US, then at that point I will show as much respect for it as I always have shown the Johnson Amendment. Sincerely. bruce.
    Nice try but no cigar.

Let's say that the teacher belonged to a sect that thought of masculine as feminine and vice versa because their Prophet said it was so. So the teacher insisted on calling boys "she" and girls "he" because of his religion. His boss says "knock it off, this isn't your church" and he persists and gets canned. You won't have a problem with him getting fired I assume. This situation is only a slight variation on that. He insists for religious reasons on misidentifying someone outside his religion, in his place of employment which is outside his church.

Free exercise of religion has its limits. I cannot steal my neighbor's children at night and offer them for human sacrifice no matter how sincere my beliefs. This case is not nearly so dramatic but the teacher still doesn't have a leg to stand on. You're not expected to like it but you're certainly capable of seeing it.

Probably you don't like that example because of the arbitrariness of it. But to all who don't believe, the edicts of a particular sect seem quite arbitrary. Like the Muslim 5 prayers a day. Even if Allah is according to them the same God as that of the Jews, you don't buy it and you don't lose sleep over it.

Speaking of the Jews, here's another example. A strict Orthodox Jew runs a restaurant. To no surprise it is Kosher and closed on the Sabbath. If someone asks for a ham & swiss sandwich they're out of luck.

But say his son goes to work at a non-Kosher deli owned and run by goyim--because he needs the money. They give him the Sabbath off, but if he balks at taking an order for that same ham sandwich, then can they fire him? Should they fire him? The waiter no more can choose his customers than the teacher his students.

Re: Pharmacy, etc. I generally try to get along with everyone. I generally try to observe the law. Some time, it is better to no continue a discussion rather than say something that will be taken the wrong way. It is sad to see the state of affairs in England. Hopefully such trash will never successfully gain control in this country. If Trump continues the pace he has set in appointments to the fed. judiciary, it will be at least a generation or more before the left can successfully damage this country the way it has other nations in old europe. As to obeying a law that is wrong, suffice it to say that I always obey the law ... just like that Johnson Amendment. Would not consider disregarding such a biased law designed to serve the interest of a now deceased left-wing politician. Know lots of folks who are just as scrupulous in obeying such laws ... exactly as they deserve to be observed. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

A lot of religion is kooky. No, you can't offer up the neighbors kids for sacrifice anymore. Gender [should] be where the kookiness ends. -I'm a girl, no,I'm a lesbian trapped in a mans body. I'm from the planet kookanon, I am here to educate you Earth people(I hate "Earthlings"). The same bunch at the bar that will tell you, I'm actually a genius, but nobody understands me; No you're an idiot and disfunctional. So someone can't keep it straight? Who can?
