I target shoot to sight my guns in but there is no place I'd rather shoot than at a dump. Love blowing up old TV's, tin cans, light bulbs, refrigerators, and if you're lucky a car. There's usually plenty of rats and snakes at a dump as well. When our local dump closed most of my shooting ended. Clay pits are fun also and in my case, also closed.
Maybe they should hand out 22 rifles ? ...

Hi Bill,
Ever see the movie Apollo 13? There's scene where they need some numbers checked and a bunch of guys whip out slide rules and have at it. Pretty funny. We're onto calculators now, and I hear pretty soon they'll start letting us have time on the Univac. But for me sometimes good old pencil and paper are the best.
I suppose it's a generational or maybe cultural thing, the idea that a case of beer belongs at a plinking session, even one in the back woods. I'm yet to go to a range that allows open intoxicants, and there are LEOs on this forum who could fill the space with tales of how guns and alcohol make a bad combination. I have no regrets for drawing the line where I do, but YMMV.Comment

Never used steel targets? Made in a thousand different sizes & designs. Can't imagine too much satisfaction in hitting a fridge, except with a RPG.I target shoot to sight my guns in but there is no place I'd rather shoot than at a dump. I didn't say I was shooting the refrigerators point blank but I do like to see what kind of pattern my shotguns give and how much penetration there is etc.. With appliances as such I used to shoot the hinges off and make the doors fall off. I've shot steel targets, for some reason they don't interest me in the least--I'd rather just shoot a can.Comment

Ballistic testing! Using markers to draw aiming points, I proved that anything which could be hit with a Mini 14 could be hit with my 783 .22 mag. We also showed 2 others that beyond 200+ yards the 22 WMR could only dent it while the .223 would penetrate. Now, how's that for undisputed high tech scientific evidence? Absolutely amazing...right???Can't imagine too much satisfaction in hitting a fridge
Hmmm...beyond that we didn't shoot at fridges much. I wonder why?

It is pretty obvious to me that togor's mind was just ahead of his typing - something that has happened to me more than once.
It looks like he meant either "Who mixes alcohol and firearms? And why?..." or "Who mixes guns and beer? And why?..."
I think that piling on when it is deserved is fine, but don't ridicule the man with ad hominem attacks for a simple misstatement. Or do you think alcohol and firearms SHOULD be mixed?

Pleasure in shooting steel is instant feedback--hardened steel rings like a bell. Of course, target has to be small enough, or far enough away, to make a hit challenging, or else why bother. Cans might serve the same purpose, but having to reset them is a drag.Last edited by clintonhater; 02-18-2018, 07:40.Comment

Aah! This was not immediately apparent to me. After having it pointed out by steelap (whose mind evidently works similarly to togor’s) I now see the error of my ways. Many apologies to togor ( and steelap) and may we now get back to hurling insults at one another. Levity has no place here.It is pretty obvious to me that togor's mind was just ahead of his typing - something that has happened to me more than once.

Whew! I'm relieved to hear that. For a minute I feared your level of humor rose above our collective intellect.

those were the good old days. I look at some of the stuff they buy on AMERICAN PICKERS and think "hey I shot up one of those."Comment

you are right sir. it was wrong of me to be so insulting. and I am truly ashamed of some of the reckless things I did in my youth. but as was mentioned in an earlier post it is a generation thing.
my generation: "damn, I screwed up, now I have to take responsibility ."
this generation: "damn, I screwed up. must of been that bottle of beer by the keyboard.
my generation: shot up priceless antiques
this generation: shoots up schools.
maybe that's the problem with kids today, I expected to be held responsible for the things i'd done wrong.Comment
